More than 100 African-American Central Georgians now have a new final resting place.

They were buried in an unmarked African-American cemetery that was discovered in 2007 because of a state highway project. Slaves and freed people were buried there during the mid and late 19th century.

The slaves and former freed people worked at McArthur plantation or neighboring plantations or were part of the freed African American tenant community.

The Georgia Department of Transportation moved the graves to make way for the new Sardis Road extension. The graves now have a marked burial site at the Bethel A.M.E. Church in Byron.

Through DNA testing and historical research, the state transportation department and local archaeologists were able to identify some of the descendants.

Five of their descendants came Tuesday to visit the site and some of them said that it's hard to describe how it feels to have this connection to their ancestors.

Gingrich, Paul, Santorum and Romney won't be the only choices here in Central Georgia on March 6, Super Tuesday.
Peach County voters will decide on a $21 million SPLOST that would pay for road and bridge projects, improvements to city and county buildings, vehicles, recycling equipment and
...more more. Peach County will split the money with the cities of Byron and Fort Valley.
Of course, voters everywhere in the state can vote on Georgia's Republican presidential primary, which includes Newt Gingrich, Ron Paul, Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum and several other candidates.
And if you want to cast a vote for President Barack Obama, you can, by asking for the Democratic ballot, but President Obama is the only name on the ballot.

FORT VALLEY, GA.--Fort Valley State University's Joseph Adkins Players, first lady Betty Rivers and television and film actress Karan Kendrick are shaking up Middle Georgia's theater scene with a local production of a hit stage play, Crowns. The "roof-raising” musical comes to the Austin
...more Theater, located in downtown Fort Valley, March 1-4.

Crowns, written by Regina Taylor, follows the story of a young girl on a path to destruction, whose life is forever changed because of lessons learned from her grandmother and a community of "Hat Queens." Through rich stories and music of the African-American South with plenty of "Hattitude," the play takes the audience on a journey of love, discovery, revelation and remembrance.

“The first time I read this script, I knew it was a piece that I had to bring to my community,” said producer Kendrick, who performed in the hit show’s first national tour. “It celebrates the best of who we are as a community and preserves our rich
