AMERICUS, Ga. - Senior forward Mike Augustine (Waterloo, Ill.) nailed a big three-point shot to help Georgia College men's basketball (17-8, 10-6 PBC) to a 60-58 overtime win at Georgia Southwestern State University (12-13, 3-13 PBC) Wednesday night.

With 16 ticks left and his team down a point, Augustine nailed a long-distance shot from the corner for the two-point lead. A Hurricane three on the other end was rebounded by the Bobcats to seal the win.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Mercer baseball team continued its early season fireworks on the offensive side of the ball in a 19-1 win over Florida A&M on Wednesday evening at Moore-Kittles Field.

To balance out the Bears potent offense, freshman Eric Nyquist put together a strong outing on the mound. The Chicago, Ill. native went five innings, allowing just one earned run on five hits while striking out two.

With the score 1-0 in favor of the visitors in the top of the second, the Bears bats began to go to work with a five-run frame. Junior Evan Boyd hit an RBI double in the inning and junior Logan Gaines followed up with a two-RBI single to go up by a 6-1 margin.

She chipped in seven boards, two assists and one steal.

MACON, Ga. - Mercer Athletic Director Jim Cole announced Wednesday that former Georgia Southwestern head coach, Tony Economopoulos will take over as the sixth women's soccer head coach in program history, effective immediately.

...more Georgia Southwestern, where he helped build the Hurricanes up-and-coming soccer program. In his tenure at GSW, he was responsible for all facets of the program. His 2010 team set the program record for most conference wins in school history. His final season saw GSW also set a program record for most wins over a three-year span.

"Coach Economopoulos was an exceptional candidate for the position," Cole said. "He has a dynamic background and a passion for the game that will serve our student-athletes well. His coaching style, leadership and regional and national coaching accomplishments are a perfect fit for our university."

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The Georgia College baseball team (7-5) plated four runs in the bottom of the seventh Tuesday, picking up a win over Newberry College (4-7) 4-1 at John Kurtz Field.

Three hits, two walks and a big hit batter in the seventh helped the Bobcats turn a 1-0 deficit

After a pair of singles and a walk loaded the bases, GC tied the game on a sacrifice fly from Matthew Robinson (Hull, Ga.). Another walk followed by a hit batsman gave GC the go-ahead run. Catcher Cody Maas (Alpharetta, Ga.) then busted the game open with a two-run single through the left side for the 4-1 final.

GC sent six pitchers to the hill, allowing just one run to the Wolves. Matt LaMothe (Troy, Mich.) got the win, tossing three innings of no-hit ball, fanning five and walking two for his first Bobcat victory (1-0).
