The new international terminal opens today at the Atlanta airport. Here is our story from March 28 on how the terminal will affect travelers from Middle Georgia.

More than 5,000 people travel from Central Georgia to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in
...more Atlanta each month.

Starting May 16, many will need to change their routine for non-stop international flights.

This paragraph was added to clarify that this affects travelers only on international flights going non-stop out of the U.S.:

Passengers traveling on nonstop international flights from Atlanta will check in at the international terminal. Passengers traveling abroad via another U.S. city will check in at the domestic terminal.

The most important thing that international travelers from Macon need to know is to look for Exit 239 off I-75. That's different from the exit travelers would normally take for domestic travel.

13WMAZ contacted the more than 20 agencies that helped in the search for Kit Colburn to tally the cost.

The total does include the figure for more than 600 hours of overtime owed to

We requested the figure more than three days ago from the City of Warner Robins through an open records request. Out of more than 20 agencies, the City of Warner Robins was the only one that could not provide an answer within three days time.

We will update you on their costs, when they make them available.

Houston County Fire Chief and Emergency Management Director Jimmy Williams says they spent about $4,600 in personnel and equipment costs.

His agency also managed the volunteer efforts. Williams totaled the value of the 685 civilian volunteers, plus the time and effort of volunteer fire fighters, certified

On Monday night, Macon Mayor Robert Reichert told City Council members that he thought the Fire and Police Pension Board could soon sue the city.

But before a full council meeting Tuesday, former Macon-Bibb Fire Chief Jimmy Hartley gave council his side.

"I'm not going to get
...more on my soapbox tonight, and I'm not going to rail on anybody. I just wanted to touch up on a few things that were previously said," Chief Hartley said before council.

He says he came to the meeting in response to Macon Mayor Robert Reichert's comments a day earlier.

"There is no perfect storm brewing," Hartley reassured.

Mayor Reichert described the issues between the Fire and Police Pension Board and the city as a "perfect storm," saying it could be a matter of time before the board sues the city.

But Hartley told 13WMAZ's Amy Aubert they have no current plans to do that.

He says the board is working to keep a lawsuit out of the

The Eastman Career Center will now stay open even though the Georgia Department of Labor was set to close the career center along with six others, according to an Eastman Career Center news release.

This also means the eight employees will keep their jobs.

State
...more Representative Jimmy Pruett from Eastman, negotiated a deal for the center to remain open rent-free.

WMAZ reported in April that the Department of Labor was set to close the Eastman Career Center by July 1 after they decided not to renew career center leases due to budget cuts.

This means Eastman Career Center patrons will not have to make a 32-mile trip to the next nearest center in Dublin, Ga.

According to Lori Martel, Field Services Manager for the Eastman career center, they helped 834 people find employment in 2011.

Forsyth's Grits Cafe will rise again soon, a co-owner says.

This week, work crews are demolishing the burned-out restaurant so owners Wayne and Terri Wetendorf can rebuild on the site.

Today, Wetendorf said he's not sure when they'll be able to reopen.

He said
...more it's taken longer than he expected to start demolishing and rebuilding.

But he said the popular downtown restaurant will come back "bigger and better."

The couple's upscale Southern Cafe was destroyed by a March fire that also damaged some nearby businesses.

They've run Grits in a 125-year-old building since 1999.

The fire put about 35 employees out of work.
