The Howard Huskies scored four runs in the first and three in the third to take a 7-0 lead over Bleckley in their home opener Tuesday. Cal Young, who singled to lead off the sixth, scored the Royals only run in the bottom of the sixth as BCHS went on to lose 8-1. Howard's eight runs...more were aided by five BC errors. Young was 1 for 2. Chastain Coleman had two of Bleckley's four hits, going 2 for 3. Due to a threat of rain Friday, a home doubleheader versus Franklin County has been moved from Friday to Thursday at 4 pm. The Lions are led by former Royals coach Brent Honeywell.
Despite a big night by Marcus Mack (18 points on six of six shooting from three-point range) Bleckley gave up an 11-1 run in the second, and had scoring droughts of at least three minutes in the third and fourth quarters as they lost to Laney 59-49 in Saturday's Regon 3-AA title game. Miss Georgia, Michaela Grace Lackey, visited Eastman-Dodge County Thursday, February 9th. Michaela enjoyed a luncheon with the Eastman Garden club. She shared her platform with the ladies, and explained how her journey as Miss Georgia would not have been possible without her faith in...more Jesus Christ. After the luncheon, Michaela enjoyed visiting the different merchants in downtown Eastman. One of her last stops was at Coleman's Gifts & Framing. Coleman's, owned & operated by Bill and Judy Lowery, is the oldest store in Eastman. Coleman's was also recently named 2011 Small Business of the Year by the Eastman-Dodge Chamber of Commerce. Michaela is from Marietta, and was a softball player in High School. She is pictured with the Lowery's granddaughter, Margaret Simmons, short-stop for Dodge County Middle School's Softball team.
The increase in gasoline prices looks to throw the proverbial 'wrench' in what looked like a positive upswing for economic recovery. It is an issue that is effecting...more all – from the small rural communities in middle Georgia like Cochran, Hawkinsville and Jeffersonville to the bigger communities like Americus, LaGrange and Macon, as well as the metro areas like Atlanta. According to the American Automobile Association(AAA), gas prices have increased by an average of 14 cents a gallon in the past month and about 30 cents a gallon since November. The gas prices seem to go up each week. And the people are making their voices heard. Residents of Bleckley and Pulaski counties joined in with their neighbors from the north Georgia area to discuss their thoughts of gas prices. The Royals trailed 1-0 going into the sixth inning of their game in Hawkinsville Monday. Chatain Coleman's one-out single tied the score. A two-out double by Kyle Brown put Bleckley on top. Mr. James Ira Thomas, age 86, of Eastman died Sunday, February 19, 2012.
