A bill is making its way through the Georgia House of Representatives that would require all public schools to have at least two personnel trained in diabetes care.

State House Bill 879 was drafted in response to rising percentages of students with Type 2 diabetes.  The Center for
...more Disease Control in Atlanta says around 13 thousand people under 20 are diagnosed nationwide each year.

Under the bill, non-medical staff members would receive basic skills training to help them recognize diabetic emergencies and help administer medications and insulin to students.

On Eyewitness News Mornin' Wednesday, Stephanie Susskind and Randall Savage shared comments from Democratic State Representative James Beverly of Macon on why he supports the legislation.

Julie Deese, a Diabetes specialist with the Medical Center of Central Georgia's Diabetes HealthWays also talked with us about the special needs a student on insulin faces in the school environment.

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The Georgia College baseball team (7-5) plated four runs in the bottom of the seventh Tuesday, picking up a win over Newberry College (4-7) 4-1 at John Kurtz Field.

Three hits, two walks and a big hit batter in the seventh helped the Bobcats turn a 1-0 deficit
...more into a 4-1 win.

After a pair of singles and a walk loaded the bases, GC tied the game on a sacrifice fly from Matthew Robinson (Hull, Ga.). Another walk followed by a hit batsman gave GC the go-ahead run. Catcher Cody Maas (Alpharetta, Ga.) then busted the game open with a two-run single through the left side for the 4-1 final.

GC sent six pitchers to the hill, allowing just one run to the Wolves. Matt LaMothe (Troy, Mich.) got the win, tossing three innings of no-hit ball, fanning five and walking two for his first Bobcat victory (1-0). Zack Hula (Kennesaw, Ga.) was lights-out for the final two frames, striking out five while not allowing a single baserunner. Newberry

Spring is still a few weeks away, but severe weather can strike Central Georgia ahead of schedule.  Twenty-one tornadoes have touched down during this time of year since modern record keeping began in 1950.

A majority of the storms formed in second half of the month when winter
...more gradually transitions to spring.  With only a few exceptions, most of the tornadoes touched down during the afternoon and evening hours.

As is generally the case, most of these tornadoes were weak with five F0s, and seven F1s.  Seven reached the strong F2 level.  Only two were classified as severe F3s.

February tornadoes caused 3 fatalities and dozens of injuries.  The most damaging storm roared through Peach County in 1975.  Here's a list of each tornado with a brief summary of the impacts.  The information originates from the storm event database of the National Climatic Data Center.

Macon Police, the Milledgeville Police Department, the GBI, and the Ocmulgee Drug Task Force worked together to arrest a man for having more than 1.3 pounds of high grade marijuana.

Macon police spokeswoman Jami Gaudet says the drugs have a street value of $4800. She says authorities
...more arrested 22-year-old Juan Rodriguez on North Jefferson Street in Milledgeville on Thursday.

Gaudet says the Macon Narcotics Unit contacted the Ocmulgee Drug Task Force when they learned about a large amount of marijuana being sent to a Milledgeville address.

She says the Ocmulgee Drug Task Force was able to find out more about the shipment and its contents, which led to the arrest.
