Former West Laurens standout and Denver Bronco Demaryius Thomas returned home to Central Georgia during the NFL off season and found time to mentor to some of his hometown Laurens County middle school students.

Thomas drove home the points that program stands for by emphasizing improving student achievement and behavior as well as parental involvement.

The 6'3," 235-pound wide receiver finished with 32 catches for 551 yards. One of his more shining moments occurred during the AFC Wild Card game, where he scored an 80-yard touchdown catch in overtime from quarterback Tim Tebow to win the game against Pittsburgh to advance to the second round.

The head of Macon's Coliseum Health System died today when his plane crashed near Ocala, Fla..

The hospital system confirmed in a news release this afternoon that P. Allen Golson died in the crash.

Sheriff's officials said the plane crashed near 38th Street as it apparently was trying to land at the airport. The cause of the crash is under investigation.

The plane departed Middle Georgia Regional Airport in Macon, at 10:30 a.m., according to flightaware.com.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration website, the plane is registered to Flying G Aviation LLC in Wilmington, Del.

Golson recently announced he was leaving Coliseum for a CEO job with Ocala Health System. Both systems are owned by HCA.

I-16 ramp exit 24 both eastbound and westbound closes for construction work starting Friday, Jan. 27 through February 1.

HOUSTON COUNTY, GA – Six schools will receive a total of $6,550 in cash awards from Kroger as a result of entering a Healthy Living contest, a Houston County Board of Education news release says.
